makati

Makati City in the Philippines’ National Capital Region is the country’s premier financial and commercial hub. Makati is home to various multinational companies, banks, embassies, high-end malls, and cultural sites, making it the perfect destination for travelers looking to experience a lot of what the Philippines can offer in a short amount of time.

MAKATI APARTMENTS

The city’s main thoroughfare, Ayala Avenue, was once a runway before the airport it serviced was destroyed during World War II. For the last fifty years, it has been the main artery of Filipino business, housing the Philippine Stock Exchange and the nation’s biggest companies.

Ayala Avenue owes its name to the Zobel de Ayala family, a clan of Spanish descent that has owned the land the central business district stands on since the 1800s. The family, through their Ayala Corporation, continues to be one of the most successful land and commercial center developers in the country.

AYALA CENTER

The city’s flagship commercial development is a sprawling network of malls, department stores, and entertainment centers. It offers the best options for shoppers and diners alike and is easily accessible from Indigo’s Makati-based apartments.

AYALA MUSEUM

Located in Greenbelt shopping center, was established in 1967 and has since showcased the most vibrant collection of Filipino art, culture, history, and archeological exhibits.

LEGAZPI VILLAGE

Legazpi Village is a cozy high-end residential area just off Ayala Avenue and its skyscrapers. Named after Miguel Lopez de Legazpi, the Philippines’ first Governor-General under Spanish rule, the village is home to luxury apartments, third-wave coffee-shops, and some of Makati’s best restaurants.

The village is a safe haven for travelers who prefer walking to hailing a cab and who want to enjoy coffee, ramen, or even vegetarian food before heading on an adventure outside Metro Manila.

THE POBLACION

The Poblacion village in Makati earned a reputation for being Metro Manila’s party district. While there’s still plenty of adult entertainment on offer, the village has recently blossomed into a creative hub for artists, intrepid gastronomes and mixologists. Take a walk around Poblacion on a Friday evening and you’ll have plenty of chic coffee shops, Korean restaurants, eclectic bars, and clubs to explore.
